About Pet First Aid UK
What this site is
Pet First Aid UK is a free reference for UK dog and cat owners. It covers 150 emergencies, symptoms, injuries, conditions, and first aid skills — every page UK-specific, with UK helplines, UK pricing, and UK seasonal context.
What this site is not
This site does not replace veterinary advice. Every page is general first aid information compiled from published veterinary sources. It cannot diagnose your specific pet. When something feels wrong, phone your vet — they will triage by phone for free.
How the content is built
Each entry is compiled from at least two published veterinary sources, primarily:
- Blue Cross — UK animal welfare charity
- PDSA — People's Dispensary for Sick Animals
- RVC — Royal Veterinary College
- Battersea Dogs and Cats Home
- Animal PoisonLine
Sources are cited at the bottom of every page. Pages have a "last reviewed" date.
Who is behind it
The site is compiled by an FA Level 2 coach who keeps pets, drawing on the published guidance of the organisations listed above. The author is not a veterinary professional. Anonymity is preserved deliberately — the value of the site is in compiled, sourced, UK-specific reference, not in the author's personal authority.
Editorial principles
- Action first, theory second. Every page starts with the single most useful first action.
- Triage clearly. Pages are colour-coded: emergency, urgent today, or monitor.
- What NOT to do. Most first aid mistakes come from doing the wrong thing. Every page lists explicit do-nots.
- Phone the vet. Almost every page leads to "phone the vet" — because in real-world UK pet emergencies, that is the right answer.
- Source everything. No claim without a source.
- UK-specific. Helplines, pricing, seasonal hazards, weather, plants, snakes, and toads are all UK context.
